CONNECTIVITY PORTFOLIO | HTTP/REST Implementation
REST, or Representational State Transfer, is an architectural style for providing standards between computer systems on the web, making it easier for systems to communicate with each other. REST-compliant systems, often called RESTful systems, are characterized by how stateless they are and how they separate the concerns of the client and the server.
HTTP is a protocol which allows the fetching of resources such as HTML documents. HTTP is the foundation of any data exchange on the Web and it is a client-server protocol, which means requests are initiated by the recipient, usually the Web browser.
The Connectware HTTP/REST implementation is suitable for polling data from as well as writing data to servers. Connections to servers are highly configurable through a lot of different properties such as hostname, scheme, port, additional headers, authentication information and many more. All data will be represented in JSON format internally.
Due to representing the data in JSON format, the data can be processed in a comfortable way and simply transferred to other systems using the embedded rule engine. If the server response data isn’t in a JSON parsable format, the response content will be made available as a string. This string representative content can also be processed in a comfortable way using the embedded rule engine. Thanks to this, it is possible to integrate not only RESTful systems but any HTTP based system, for example websites.
